Michael V. Marcotte

Marcotte recently joined the Communication & Journalism faculty at the University of New Mexico as Associate Professor of Practice. Marcotte organized the funding and launch of an ONA Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education project, The New Mexico News Port, a “collaboration hub” with local radio, TV, newspaper and web journalists. Mike’s career includes managing the newsrooms of KPBS in San Diego and KPLU in Seattle. As a consultant, his clients include NPR, Houston Public Media, Iowa Public Radio, CPB, Capital Public Radio and KQED. Marcotte is former president of Public Radio News Directors Inc. and authored PRNDI’s news director guide. He was the 2012-13 Reynolds Chair for Ethics of Entrepreneurial and Innovative Journalism at the University of Nevada, where he launched Nevada Media Alliance. Marcotte was a 2011 Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford where he focused on entrepreneurism, leadership, design-thinking and social network analysis.
