Paula Poindexter

Poindexter is the 2013-2014 president of AEJMC, the world’s largest association of journalism and communication educators, graduate students, and media professionals. At the University of Texas at Austin where she is a journalism professor, Poindexter uses films, survey data, journalism timelines, and examples from the news to integrate ethics into her courses that examine journalism in society, journalism and diversity, and the mobile news audience. Poindexter has published three books, including Millennials, News, and Social Media: Is News Engagement a Thing of the Past?, which inspired the first National News Engagement Day, her AEJMC presidential initiative that will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Poindexter, who earned her Ph.D. degree from Syracuse University, has also been a manager and executive at The Los Angeles Times and a reporter and producer for KPRC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Houston. She contributed to “Online Commenting” in ONA’s Build Your Own Ethics Code project.
