As a digital storyteller, can you use that great Instagram or Facebook photo you found in your search? What about embedding a YouTube or a Vine video in your story? Who owns your Google Glass data? This session will cover all of the practical basics of copyright: what is considered fair use, how to navigate Creative Commons photos, and what’s actually in those terms of service documents you haven’t read. We will cover specific situations reporters, editors, designers and data journalists face every day, and how you can make practical use of copyrighted material.
