Adair is the Knight Professor of the Practice of Journalism and Public Policy at Duke University. The creator of the Pulitzer Prize-winning website PolitiFact, he is one of 25 Knight Chairs at universities around the country. His research focuses on global fact-checking, structured journalism and new uses of data and digital tools. He co-authored the widely cited 2014 report on digital tools, The Goat Must Be Fed, and was the organizer of the Poynter Institute's 2014 Global Summit on Fact-Checking in London, England. Adair's awards include the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting (with the PolitiFact staff), the Manship Prize for New Media in Democratic Discourse and the Everett Dirksen Award for Distinguished Coverage of Congress. He is the author of "The Mystery of Flight 427: Inside a Crash Investigation."
