Blau is the Guardian's Director of Digital Strategy and currently also the editorial coordinator for the ongoing relaunch of the Guardian's sites and apps in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. He reports to Alan Rusbridger, the Guardian’s Editor-in-Chief, as well as to Andrew Miller, CEO of Guardian News and Media. Before joining The Guardian, Blau was Editor-in-Chief of the German digital-only news organisation Zeit Online in Berlin. During his five-year tenure, Zeit Online more than quadrupled its unique visits and was the first German newsroom ever to win an ONA award for its data journalism. Before joining Zeit Online in 2008, Blau worked for several German national newspapers and German broadcaster ZDF as a freelance reporter in Silicon Valley, covering the intersection of technology, media and politics. Blau is a Vice President of the Global Editors Network, based in Paris.
